The first Orient Line ship to call at Port Everglades, the Orcades visited in 1955 on a voyage from London to Sydney via the Panama Canal and North American West Coast. In the late 50s she was given complete air-conditioning, and a few years later was made one-class tourist. But Orcades could not meet the 1966 Fire Safety Requirements, and her last call in the USA was in 1968. That combined with the advent of the Boeing 747 "jumbo jet" made her one of the first post-war P&O-Orient Liners to be scrapped, in 1973.
